Windborn starts out in what appears to be the middle of a series,
making me feel as though I missed something, but quickly adjusts to
fill in the missing holes. The story moves at a quick pace,
revealing facts about the characters and plotlines with relative
ease. Once the factors fell into place, I found I couldn't put the
book down, wanting to read throughout the night and find out what
happens. There is a slow point towards the middle of the book, but
the pace picks back up thereafter. Lauryl is not your typical
character. She is very free with her sexual affections, enjoying
being woman and not afraid to admit it. While her liberated
personality shocked me at first, I found myself loving her spirit and
sure-minded senses. Glade is like a vampire, needing sustenance to
survive. While he seemed less solid in my mind, mostly because he
was very dependent on Lauryl in the beginning, his persona solidifies
as the book continues. The secondary characters of Glade's family
help smoothly cement the bond between kin and Lauryl's induction the
group, although some of the family members are annoying at times.
There aren't very many sex scenes, although there is a great deal of
sexual frustration between Lauryl and Glade. Overall, I enjoyed this
very imaginative fantasy novel. As always, Ms. Boyett-Compo has left
me intrigued and ready to read more of her books.

PARANORMAL ROMANCE REVIEWS
WINDBORN is a frolicking fantasy adventure. Once more, Charlotte
Boyett-Compo pulled me into the story from the very first page and didn't
let go until the last word. Even then I wanted more. As with all of
Charlotte Boyett-Compo's stories, we have a hero tortured beyond what any
man should have to endure. At one point, I have to admit, I really didn't
like Queen Adelie because of what her son had to go through due to her
actions. But she did redeem herself. Lauryl is a free spirit and does what
she wants, when she wants, never beholden to anyone, nor does Glade try to
change her. This really is a very good read and one I highly recommend.

BITTEN BY BOOKS REVIEWS

Windborn made me keep reading. I wanted to go to bed. I had to know how it ended. This is my second Boyett-Compo. As an author I am coming to believe that I can rely on her for hot sex combined with a compelling story set in a well-built world.
