Wordweaving

These three sharp, starkly surreal short stories had me hooked from the first line to the last. As the smart, savvy heroines confront brutal, vicious evil with extraordinary valor, I was hooked from the first page to the last. Not for the faint of heart, these authors having an extraordinary flair for not just entertaining, but also for challenging the reader. I highly recommend TWILIGHT OBSESSIONS.

Escape to Romance

5 Roses: This one is headed for your keeper shelf - don't miss it!

About Charlee's Novella: "Taken By the Wind": "There are more twists and turns before the surprise ending of this story. A real grabber, this story will hold the attention from page one and nothing ends as you expect. On a scale of one to five, this is definitely a five. "

"This book offers such a diverse collection of stories that there is something for everyone. But, then, when you combine love, sex, terror, and a few laughs thrown in, what else could you ask for? And with these three authors, a reader can't lose. Dark Star Publishing has a winner in this one, overall a big five stars."

Twilight Obsessions is a trilogy of love and terror that just shouldn’t be missed. All three of the authors did a great job with their stories. The suspense that the authors created in their stories was so powerful that you don’t want to read this book with the lights off.

A Romance Review

5 Roses

Charlotte Boyett-Compo leads off this anthology with her story Taken By The Wind. Caught in the wrong place at the wrong time, Brenna Collins accidentally becomes a witness to a killing - one of many committed by a brutal serial killer who believes that his victims should lose their ability to see their fate! I'm not going into more detail because I don't want to spoil such a brilliantly inventive plot - this hair-raising suspense story is frightening enough! The developments in Brenna's life from then on and her slowly unraveling ties to this inhuman monster are played out against the authorities' attempts to find him - one cop in particular is hot on the trail, Kylan Cree! The terrifying inevitability of Brenna's fate and the enormously shocking twist at the conclusion of this tale make it a real treasure - not to be read in the dark!!

You never forget your first Charlotte Boyett-Compo book. And even when you’ve read more than a handful of them, you are always haunted by your favourite parts. I have come to expect a very high standard from Ms Boyett-Compo, and I am never disappointed, and yet again, she has produced a highly memorable and terrifying tale of where love and hate blur, and there is plenty of action and thrills for even the most die-hard fan of thrillers.

Charlee’s “Taken by the Wind” starts straight in with the action (as do all her books) when Brenna Collins overhears a murder, and then whilst trying to escape, sees the face of the murderer. He corners her in a lift, and has every chance to kill her, and yet he lets her live to run away another day. And she does. The Gemini killer has murdered numerous twins, but has other plans for Brenna who is very high on his agenda, and over many years and many counties, he pursues her relentlessly in this incredibly exciting and fast paced short story.

If “Taken by the Wind” is your first book, it’s bound not to be your last. Catch the wind, and follow it. There’s plenty more where that came from.

TAKEN BY THE WIND is electrifying! The story line twists and turns till you've questioned your guess on the killer a hundred times. It should be obvious from almost the beginning who the killer is and then Ms. Compo expertly turns the story around so you're questioning yourself again. She is a true expert at pain and suffering in her characters and with every stroke of her pen she will send shivers up your spine in anticipation.

Of course I can't give away the ending, but let me say that Ms. Compo shocked me good. I sat stunned after reading the last page and thought "Oh! You got me!" I recommend TAKEN BY THE WIND highly! It's one of the best thrillers I've read in a long time!

In the Library Reviews

I have not read a thriller in a very long time. TAKEN BY THE WIND certainly was a great induction back into a favorite genre of mine. The tension created by this book was incredible. The questions kept coming, and just as soon as I was certain I had the answers, the conclusion just blew me away! I haven't had the opportunity to read more of Ms. Compo's work, but let me tell you, I will be taking the time now. I don't think there is a reader that will pick up TAKEN BY THE WIND and not be shocked!

Timeless Tales

5 Stars!

Taken by the Wind is only a novella but wow, does it pack a punch!! Brenna Collins is in the wrong place at the wrong time. She witnesses a murder. A brutal serial killer has been running loose. Dubbed the Gemini Killer, he has been murdering pairs of twins. The killer becomes fixated on her - she has made an impression on him, especially by fighting back, since most of his victims rarely put up a struggle. The killer pursues her across several states and over time. Kylan Cree, a cop, is one of many who are trying to catch him. He and Brenna become close, but details of his past slowly come to the forefront. I can't add more or else I would be giving the entire story away. But there is a twist at the end that had me shaking my head!!

I thoroughly enjoyed this novella!! It could have been expanded into a longer book, but I felt the length was just perfect for it. It was a suspenseful, quick and very satisfying read. The characters were well developed for such a short story. Brenna is the kind of heroine I love - strong, smart and brave. The author has come up with a riveting story. I look forward to reading her next book!

ENCHANTED ROMANCE REVIEWS

4.5

I really liked Taken By The Wind. It wasn’t what I expected, but it was better than I expected. The character of the killer is fully developed and extremely creepy. When you read of his desire for Brenna, you cringe thinking what might take place should he succeed in fulfilling his desires. Her fear of disclosing the identity of the killer is understandable because of whom the killer is. Were I to be put into the same position, I too, might have the same feelings she did. The suspense builds and builds in the story until you come to the conclusion of the story and believe me, it’s not the conclusion you expect. If you’re looking for a good suspense story and one that is a bit on the unusual side then this is the book for you. Be sure to check out Charlotte Boyett-Compo’s Taken By The Wind.

Five Slippers

TAKEN BY THE WIND may be a short novella, but it packs a big punch. It has all of the turns, twists and wonderful characterization that Charlotte Boyette-Compo’s work exhibits. The language is fluent, the plotting is original, the characters are sympathetic. It is a satisfying read except that this reviewer would have liked to hang around a little longer to find out what happened next.

Futures Mystery Anthology Magazine

This is my first time reading any version of TAKEN BY THE WIND. I've actually reviewed a couple of Ms. Boyett-Compo's e-books before, and it's a pleasure to do so again. Her writing has evolved into a much tighter fast-paced read. Her storytelling, always strong, is now better than ever.

TAKEN BY THE WIND is an intense run from start to finish.

Excellent!

What a suspenseful story! It had my attention from the very beginning and I just couldn’t read fast enough to follow the suspenseful story line! The villain is terrifying! The heroine is heartwarming, believable, and immediately I found myself rooting for her to succeed over the evil presenting itself, literally, at her door! Another intriguing aspect of this story that I appreciate is that the heroine is not the usual cookie-cutter type of gorgeous, hourglass figure, beauty. She’s a little chunky in calf and arm, not quite conventionally pretty; and that makes her so much more endearing as a heroine!

ROMANCE REVIEWS TODAY

The serial killer dreams about Brenna. There is something about her that turns him on, and he can't get her out of his mind. He dreams about taking her with tenderness and patience, so that she wants only him. He decides he must have her, even if it is the last thing he ever does in his lifetime.

A very frightening book, TAKEN BY THE WIND is Brenna's worst nightmare -- the person in power, and who is responsible for her safety, is actually the serial killer. Who would believe her, and how long would she survive if she told the truth? She tries to stay one step ahead of him.Well-written and very scary, the killer is obsessed with Brenna, and she is terrified, not sure what way to turn, unable to protect herself and those she loves. As Brenna tries to live a normal life, the killer stalks, threatens, and fantasizes about her. Some very hot sexual scenes with a few twists and turns make TAKEN BY THE WIND a story to remember.

FALLEN ANGEL REVIEWS (another look)

Charlotte Boyett-Compo takes you on a whirlwind trip of deceit and doubt that will tie your stomach in knots. With her usual flair she has constructed a heroine who is forced to be strong at the end of her rope. A woman who stands tall when it counts the most. Brenna was terrorized for years and yet did not break down. I was awed by the strength she showed and was disgusted with the depravity that the killer acted with. All in all in was a masterful tale that played out until the very end. The twist was frightening in its simplicity.

In a brilliant and thrilling novel, the author takes you on a roller-coaster ride of emotions as you follow Brenna and the Gemini Killer. You are sure you know who the culprit is; I mean the author has spelled it out for you, right? Or has she? The thing with this novel is even though you suspect what might be going on you never really know for sure and that's what keeps you on the edge of your seat. Throughout the novel both the heroine and the other characters are laid out in such a way that you can actually see them and they become real to you. I was actually leaning forward in my chair at one point as I was urging Brenna to overcome her adversary! The novel ends with a twist that some readers will truly love and will leave others confused but that will only make them want to re-read it, I'm sure.

Charlotte has done it again… where she kept me on the edge of my seat as I traveled with Brenna, running from Des Moines, Iowa, to Milton, Florida, to Wateron, New York, from the Gemini Killer, who had somehow let her see his face and always managed to find her. The Gemini Killer only killed one of a pair of twins and he was wanted by the FBI. But since he never left a witness or any clues to his identity, the law enforcement were clueless as to where to turn next. So far he had killed eleven people and he had to be stopped now! This is an excellent read for all suspense lovers, with just enough sex to keep you squirming.

TAKEN BY THE WIND is one of those stories that will keep you up nights. Charlotte Boyett-Compo is incomparable when it comes to spine-tingling terror and getting into the mind of someone truly evil. Brenna is a very strong woman and does what she has to in order to survive. Not many people would move as often she does to escape a killer. I did not see that ending coming at all. Truly a wonderful thriller and one I won’t forget for a long, long, long while.
