THE CREATION OF THE REVENANT WORM
For reasons that are His own, Raphian, the Destroyer of Mens' Souls, despised the creation of the first humanoid by the Great God, Alel. He set about to destroy humanity, to wipe it out of the megaverse by transforming it into creatures like Himself.
To do that, He ejaculated his contaminated seed into the Winds and those abhorrent kernels of evil traveled to wherever there was life. They fell to land, attracted by an irresistible chemical compound contained within a certain plant called papaver (also known as tenerse) that drew the kernel like a magnet. The kernel and the plant bonded in an obscene parody of human fertilization and from that union, a spore was created.
When this tainted spore is taken into a living body—human or otherwise—it becomes a parasite and this parasite which is called an obligate grows into a revenant worm queen. It burrows into the host's body above the right kidney and attaches itself there. The hellion, as the queen is called, then gives birth to hatchlings which will infect the host body and form a symbiotic relationship with the host.
During this symbiotic relationship, the hellion gives the host immortality, the strength of twenty men, psychic powers, as well as the ability to Transition (shapeshift) into wolf, hound or werecat forms. The Lupine hosts also have the ability to Transition into avian form.
Because the blood host can not take Sustenance during Transition, the hellion stores Sustenance inside her body so she can feed her nestlings. The spiny protrusions on her back are inserted into the host's kidney to hold her body steady as she uses her proboscis (located beneath her mandibles) to extract nourishment. The proboscis—like the needle of a syringe--contains a groove in which reside several extremely slender, exceedingly sharp, saw-toothed
stylets. These allow the parasite to inject itself into the host's hip bone to draw out the marrow. Taking the marrow into her body, she processes it as nourishment for her fledglings. The process is extremely uncomfortable for the host.
